An important tanning designer and supplier, Coppertone has been launching tanning products as well as sunless tanning products since 1944.Coppertone products have continuously evolved to satisfy the ever sophisticated needs of their faithful consumers. America's leading suncare brand began its saga with a suntan cream, invented by pharmacist Benjamin Green. He discovered the principle while he was cooking cocoa butter in a granit coffee pot on the stove and then experiencing each doze on his own bald head.
Coppertone is also involved in informing the tanners about sun exposure, the risks it poses and how skin may be damaged. The first Coppertone sunless tanner was launched in 1960. In 1971 Coppertone Solar Research Centerwas founded. In 1972 the SPF factor was introduced in the United States for the first time. Sunless tanning extra moisturizing lotion was launched in 1992.
The well-known Coppertone Endless Sunless Tanning Lotion manages to create the color of natural tan, which is a huge advantage for the tanners. It contains a patented protein complement which reacts with DHA and skin cells providing a quick brown color. The tan appears in 30 minutes. Ingredients have been scientifically measured and dual chambered so the effect is enhanced for the tanners' benefit. The drawbacks are:
- it does not include sunscreen
- it may stain clothes, furniture and anything else in touch with (smell might be a problem, too).
Some tanners claim that Coppertone Endless Summer is the best self tanning lotion because of the almost perfect match between the skin type and bronze. They also appreciate that a little amount of lotion spread on the entire body is enough to provide a long-lasting tan. Endless Summer from Coppertone is rich in special elements that smooth and hydrate skin to alow better absorbtion.
Along with sunless products, Coppertone has created plenty of suncare products: sunscreens, oil free lotions, sunblock sticks, lip balms, and sunscreens especially for children. They provide UVA and UVB protection, also containing vitamin E and aloe to nourish the skin and prevent premature aging. Moreover, in 1998, Coppertone, in partnership with AAD joined the first in-school sun safety program.
